Frankfurt Germany

The role played by Frankfurt in Germany is similar to what Manhattan is to the state of New York. Known as the "Manhattan of Germany", Frankfurt is located on the Main River of this Central European country. Not only is it the financial hub of Germany, but the entire European Union as well.

Unfortunately, not everyone is aware of the potential that Frankfurt has as a Mecca of tourism for world-weary business travellers and vacationers who are looking forward to having a unique time in Germany.

A Brief Glimpse at Frankfurt's Past

The reason why Frankfurt has not lived up to be as gorgeous as Germany's capital Berlin is because of the bombings during the Second World War. As a result, the medieval city of Frankfurt was destroyed. Over the years, however, the city and its people slowly but surely recovered.

The most recent developments brought Frankfurt as the financial hub of Germany and the rest of Europe, what with its being home to the S-Bahn and U-Bahn train system as well as the tallest skyscraper in the European Union which is the Commerzbank Tower. Today's Frankfurt is unashamedly towering, modern and has a lot of things to offer art lovers and sophisticated travelers from all over the globe.

Travel Opportunities to Look forward to when Visiting Frankfurt

Frankfurt is considered to be a city in Europe which is more art-centered that any other place in the region. There are plenty of theaters, galleries and museums that you can visit. The towering skyscrapers with modern architecture are also a sight to behold. Despite its being a modern financial hub, Frankfurt also has a back-to-basics area which gives you a glimpse at the city's historic past – with cobblestone streets, historic squares and old-fashioned wine bars.

Shopaholic travelers who cannot stop by a foreign country without checking out the goods that it has to offer should visit Zeil street, also known as the "Fifth Avenue" of Germany which is lined up with boutiques and designer label stores. The nightlife in Frankfurt is also something which is at par with what its neighboring cities have to offer because there are hip night clubs along with the traditional wine bars that you can hang out in at night.

You can easily get from one destination to another using the public transportation system where there are connected trams, subways and bus stops. Here's a quick list of the other must-see attractions in Frankfurt:
  • Visit Romerberg which is located in downtown Frankfurt. The Romer is a town hall where there are neighboring 14th and 15th century churches and other historical buildings. Cafes and shops also line up this downtown area.
  • Stop by the Gothic-style Dom or Saint Bartholomeus' Cathedral.
  • See the iron bridge of Eiserner Steg which was built in 1869.
  • Stop by one of the dozens of museums in Frankfurt to have a glimpse of Germany's history.

On the one hand, Frankfurt does serve its purpose of being the financial center of Germany as well as the rest of the European Union. On the other, the numerous sightseeing opportunities and travel experiences that it offers to visitors just goes to show that there's more to the city than meets the eye – making it one of the most interesting places to travel to in this part of the world.
